Biography

Abhay Lamba is a Chartered Accountant and investment professional whose experience combines private equity, direct investment and transaction advisory with a focus on portfolio performance and value creation. With a career spanning the United Kingdom and New Zealand, he brings financial discipline, commercial insight and analytical depth to investment decisions.

As Advisor – Investment Research & Analysis at Phoenix Investment Bank (Labuan) Ltd., Mr. Lamba brings expertise relevant to evaluating investment opportunities, assessing business fundamentals and strengthening financial due diligence. His background in portfolio valuations, financial modelling and scenario analysis equips him to scrutinise assumptions, assess risk and return, and translate complex financial information into practical investment insights. His experience across technology, renewable energy and low-emission transport also offers valuable sector perspectives to support the bank’s research and advisory capabilities.

He currently serves as Portfolio Insights Manager at Synova, a UK private equity firm, where he focuses on enhancing portfolio performance through rigorous analysis and monitoring. His work supports the identification of opportunities to strengthen business performance and create lasting value.

Previously, Mr. Lamba was a Senior Associate at Permira, where he led technology-sector portfolio reporting and valuations. His responsibilities included quarterly portfolio company valuations, exit modelling, scenario analysis and performance reviews for senior investment partners and portfolio review committees. This role combined detailed financial analysis with an understanding of the factors influencing investment returns and exit outcomes.

Earlier, as an Investment Professional at New Zealand Green Investment Finance, a government-backed green investment bank, he executed debt and mezzanine financing transactions supporting renewable energy and low-emission transport. His work included financing electric bus fleets, commercial and public-sector solar installations, and the transition to lower-emission vehicles—connecting investment execution with practical economic and environmental outcomes.

He began his career in EY’s Strategy and Transactions team, advising corporate and government clients on mergers and acquisitions, transaction services and vendor due diligence. This established a foundation in assessing financial performance, evaluating transaction risks and supporting informed investment decisions.

Mr. Lamba is a Chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). He holds a BCom/BA conjoint degree from the University of Auckland, majoring in Accounting, Finance and Economics, with a minor in Statistics. He graduated as a Senior Scholar and consistently achieved top-percentile results in his professional examinations at the prestigious Auckland Grammer Boys School in Auckland, New Zealand.
